Lady Simone Meets Lady Obama

It was an extremely exciting and momentous evening as First Lady Michelle Obama joined President Obama at reception at the White House honoring Women from all around the world for International Women's Day.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright read a beautiful poem and President Obama stated that if a woman works as hard as a man she should get paid as a man.

In celebration of accomplished women, the First Couple lauded women for achieving high standards of distinction in their fields. The emcee for this reception was actress Kerry Washington, above. Singers Katharine McPhee and  Afghani singer, Mozdah performed for the reception, where members of the audience included senators and congresswomen, Yvette Clarke, congresswoman from Brooklyn was present.

As a writer and publisher of Around Town Magazine, I felt honored to receive a handshake from both Mr. & Mrs Obama. It felt like they knew the struggle, determination and hard work that it takes to produce a great magazine each month with little staff or budget, in a recession.
