A NIGHT OF HEALING @ WHITE HOUSE

Article by Lady Simone

Yolanda Adams, Mellencamp, Negro spirituals Rocks White House

(February 9, 2010) President and Mrs Obama celebrated Black History month with musical performances that brought healing to both races.  It was the day before the blizzard; the show was actually rescheduled for February 9th on account of the expected blizzard.  Yolanda Adams, John Mellencamp didn’t seem to notice the cold or the snow as they brought healing to the crowd.

Mellencamp told his story about his teenage Black friend who taught him about rhythm and dance, who was also not allowed into restaurants and hotels after performing with the White singer. He sang and played his guitar encouraging everyone to end hate and racial divide in order to heal a land.

Adams rocked the house with all her songs. Thank God Almighty We’re Free at Last. Jennifer Hudson sang a duo with Smokey Robinson, Baez sang We Are Not Afraid which was a message to the world that our President is not afraid, come what may.  Our royal couple will face it together. The singers also performed to over 150 highs school students who were invited to the White House for this awesomely healing concert. Log on to PBS.ORG to see this amazing concert.
